Pulled From the Card Drawer

Collected over the years from follow-up calls and the note line at the bottom of a re-gauge form. Names used with permission, towns as given.

Senior refit · Tulsa
Seventy-one, and I had convinced myself the game was leaving me. Turned out my irons weighed the same as they did when I was forty-five. Thirty grams lighter per club and I am carrying the 7-iron onto greens again. Nobody had suggested it in four fittings elsewhere.

Junior sizing · Broken Arrow
Two boys, eighteen months apart, both growing. Instead of two new sets we got one chassis extended and the other cut down, plus a card telling us when to come back. That is the only reason we could afford to keep both of them playing.

Women's full bag · Bixby
I was told for years that I needed the lightest shaft available. My measured speed put me two weight classes up. The heavier set is more consistent and I stopped hitting that weak block off the tee. It felt like being taken seriously.

Wedge session · Owasso
Came in for new wedges and left with the same wedges, freshly ground down a couple of degrees of bounce and re-gripped, and a fifty-eight to fill the gap. Cost me under a hundred dollars all in. They talked me out of the sale.

Driver session · Jenks
They shortened my driver by an inch and a quarter. I lost two miles an hour of club speed and gained eleven yards of carry because I stopped hitting it off the heel. The card explains exactly why, in writing, which I appreciate as an engineer.

Annual re-gauge · Sand Springs
Fourth year of bringing the bag in every spring. Two of my irons had drifted a degree and a half flat from mat work. Sixty-five dollars, forty minutes, and my dispersion is back where it was. It is the cheapest thing I do for my golf all year.

Putter session · Tulsa
Eye line was two inches inside the ball and my putter was an inch too long. They cut it, re-weighted the head for our club's green speed, and my three-putts halved over a season. No new putter required.
GS Gideon SowellPutter, 2024
League half day · Catoosa
Brought nine women from our Tuesday league. Seven of us were playing clubs at least an inch too long. Four hours, forty-five dollars each, and everybody left with numbers on paper. Half the group has been back since for a full session.

Hybrid session · Tulsa
I wanted a 3-hybrid. They gauged what I already had, told me the 4-iron was doing the job fine and the real gap was at the other end, and fitted a 5-wood instead. Different club entirely from what I walked in asking for, and the right one.

Bring the bag as it sits. Worst case, you find out your clubs are fine and you keep the card anyway.
